In Context, a 10-minute remix film, is an experimental exploration of the true nature and complexity of life in cities across the continent of Africa. Developed as a video installation that was part of a curatorial contribution to The Rotterdam International Architecture Biennale 2016, the film meshes together “found” visuals, sounds, speeches, lectures, music, soundscapes, art, and historical material from multiple thinkers, creators gathered from sources primarily from across the African continent. The film installation challenged the viewer to engage with the continent’s history, looking at how history, both colonial and post-independence, has contributed to the current state of cities in various parts of the continent. The film was a collaboration with film production company, Makhulu, and was edited by VJ Kenzia Rust.
